From the Health Co-Management Co-Chairs

As the Co-Chairs and on behalf of the Health Co-Management (HCoM) Committee, we are proud to deliver the 2017/2018 Annual Report highlighting some key accomplishments and achievements of six Subcommittees with representation from each Treaty area in Alberta. The strength of HCoM comes from the joint commitment and hard work of all partners to improve health outcomes for all First Nations peoples in Alberta. It is an honour to work with so many strong individuals who are passionate about building good relationships and strengthening health systems. Since the Assembly of Treaty Chiefs on Health in February 2018, we have heard strong support for the continuation of HCoM. As Co-Chairs, we know that HCoM is an important and effective structure for health governance and we are committed to working with partners towards a renewed approach that is responsive to the contemporary health needs of First Nations in Alberta. We are proud of the many achievements of HCoM over the past year and look forward to continuing to work together towards improving the health and well-being of First Nations in Alberta.

From the Health Co-Management Secretariat Staff

On behalf of the Health Co-Management Secretariat, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our partners in this first year of transition from Yellowhead Tribal Council to Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta. As is often the case with big changes, there were some unexpected challenges, but HCoM’s partners in health were supportive in ways that humbled us. We are fortunate to work among you. Thank you to the dedicated HCoM Committee and Subcommittee representatives who work tirelessly for First Nations in Alberta, despite emerging pressures in their communities and the region. Your work and dedication will always inspire us to do better and work together for First Nations. Based on the recommendations of past reviews, as well as the priorities identified at the HCoM Summit in September 2017, the Health Co-Management Secretariat is looking forward to continuing to support the HCoM evolution while bringing the same dedication and capacity that you have grown to expect in the past year.
