Welcome to the First Nations Health Status 
Report-Alberta Region 2010–2011. This year, the report on the health status of 
First Nations in Alberta expands over last year’s to include an analysis of the causes of deaths across all age groups; a closer look at Injuries, the leading cause of deaths among First Nations in the region; a detailed examination of the impact of Diabetes; and the Health Protection indicators in Communicable Disease Control and Environmental Public Health.
The purpose of this report is to provide a ‘diagnostic’ of the health of First Nations communities in Alberta in the specified areas above. This is intended to serve as a catalyst for action by health planners and decision-makers at various levels. In addition, every year each community also receives a separate report with data relevant to their local context but serving the same purpose as the regional report.
